Overview

This role offers a profound opportunity for a skilled, driven, and committed individual to lead the technical development of projects related to foundation brakes, specifically GCI and SiCAlight brake discs.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • As part of the Research and Development Team, lead the technical development of existing and future products within the Brake Discs area by managing requirements through the project’s lifecycle from concept through PPAP and industrialization.
  • Contribute to development through the application of deep theoretical, practical, and technical knowledge to be able to resolve complex and detailed issues within the area of Brake Discs design.
  • Identify the need for new technologies, requirements, methods, and processes for the Brake Discs as well as keep abreast of upcoming trends and technical developments related to Brake Discs.
  • Apply your expertise within Foundation Brakes and Brake Discs to create and update long-term strategies for the system.
  • Develop Brake Discs using risk-based methodology including the use of DFMEA and similar processes.
  • Create component design & analysis documentation and calculation & simulation templates.
  • Develop suitable technical mitigations, test cases, duty cycles, and validation criteria to sign-off component and system development at project milestones.
  • Provide technical support in discussions with prospective suppliers and customers and be the key contact person for the customers for technical matters.
  • Conduct component analysis using state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies.
  • Lead the system and component-level test specifications and DVP development.
  • Conduct and lead internal / external design reviews include in CAE analysis.
  • Support CAE simulation and analysis activities (e.g., NVH, CFD, structural) for the Brake Disc development.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work with designers to implement those fixes.
  • Support CAD design activities for the Brake Disc development.
  • Ensure effective and clear communication and coordination between internal/external stakeholders.
  • Apply and support agile way of working and contribute to the wider team’s development goals.

Education, Experience and Skills

  • Degree in Automotive, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a System Engineer within automotive chassis development.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with Foundation Brakes, experience in Brake Disc design is a plus.
  • Deep theoretical, practical, and technical knowledge of Foundation Brakes system design including fundamentals and risk-based development methodologies such as DFMEA.
  • Good experience in guiding simulation team in execution and analysis of NVH, and/or heat transfer, and/or structural simulations specific for foundation brakes and brake discs.
  • Strong understanding engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, mechatronics, and electrical engineering.
  • Work knowledge of relevant standards (SAE, ASME and ISO).
  • Knowledge of a CAD design and PLM software; Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault is a plus.
  • Good knowledge in Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault is a plus.
  • Good knowledge in Nastran or Abaqus is a plus.
  • Good knowledge in agile way of working and Jira is a plus.
  • An analytically directed mindset, and systematic problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles, frameworks, and methodologies.
  • Understanding complex system development methods.
  • Fluent English skills, both spoken and written.
  • Enthusiastic about sustainability.
